Who We Are

Lindy Focus was started in 2002 by Michael Gamble, Jaya Dorf, and Sosh Howell. Michael and Jaya are full-time dancers who live in Asheville, NC, and Sosh Howell is dancer/programmer who currently resides in Atlanta, GA. The three of us share a vision of camp where Lindy Hop culture can reach its maximum potential. We've always been inspired by the sheer scope of Herrang Dance Camp, and all three believe that the true potential of a Lindy Hop event has yet to be fully met by any camp. We're dedicated to pushing a little further in that direction every year.

Lindy Focus - Our Baby

As the scope of what swing dancers enjoy continues to grow and include more and more Balboa, Blues, Fusion, Vintage, and Specialized theme-workshops (which we think are awesome and totally support), it becomes ever more important to keep bringing the focus back to Lindy Hop: the dance that holds us all together, and got most of us dancing.

Even within Lindy Hop, there are ever-increasing divisions: you have your Competition "Rock Stars", your Exchange Junkies, your Innovators, your Purists, and your Purists Who Think the Other Purists are Wrong.

At Lindy Focus, we don't take sides in those battles. But we DO make an effort each year to pull in who think are the most inspiring and skilled dancers, teachers, and performers in the world. That standard changes every year, and we promise never to become complacent in our hiring, to always keep an open mind, to acknowledge the achievements of the world's most prolific and successful dancers while keeping an eye out for upcoming talent.

Seriously, What?

Lindy Focus is a dance camp, which means attendees spend about a week taking classes during the day, participating in competitions and performances, and social dancing all night. Our event is in a hotel, which basically means you can wake up and go to class in your pajamas if you want, though don't be surprised if you see other folks in what looks like formal evening attire at 10am. So, yes, it's pretty crazy and can be intense, but of course the whole point is to submerge yourself until the rest of the world disappears.
