How Placement Works
Unlike many other camps, you do not sign up for an exact level before camp. Our registration form does ask a few experience-related questions to help us better get an idea of where you best fit, but ultimately your final class group will most likely depend on a placement session at camp. (We promise to keep these as brief and straightfoward as possible.)
Important Placement Notes
- There will be six tracks.
- Our Beginner Track does not require an audition.
- All other class groups require participation in a placement session.
-
For our most experienced, professional and semi-professional attendees, we will offer two class-group options: one will be a challenging mix of social Lindy Hop, Authentic Jazz, and Performance. The other will be a pro-level performance-intensive track -- this group will be performing for camp multiple times. This track also requires a partner.
On the first day of class, these two class groups meet as one group and learn a routine together, to be performed. Those who have a partner and wish to continue learning top-level routines and performing them will continue doing so, and those who would rather focus on social dance classes for the rest of camp will split off into the other group.
- Placements will take place Saturday Morning at 9:15am, immediately followed by appeals.
Placement Sessions
Placement sessions will be in a social-dance format, and you will dance with a randomly selected partner. You may be asked to rotate and dance again. If you aren't satisfied with your placement, you can attend a second session with a partner of your choice, which will be overseen by a different set of panelists. Your final level placement will be whichever of these two sessions place you highest, and that placement will be final.
