-
Tip: Take a screenshot and make it your lock screen/background for this week so the image is always easily accessible.
- If you do not want to bring your phone to dances, you can print out a copy of your QR code and the hotel's business center for free (visit the front desk for more details).
|
-
Why isn’t my pass working? Please check with the Lindy Focus Registration Desk; they can help troubleshoot pass issues.
- I got a Day Pass(es), when does it activate? Day passes are active from 10a - 6a and reset each morning.
-
What does my pass get me access to? Your pass includes the main dance, late night, and all community activities including lectures, discussions, panels, games, jam sessions, and open practice room sessions.
- Do I need to carry my phone with me everywhere? To get into classes and dances, you will need the QR code that comes with your registration: This can be on your phone or a printed picture.
-
I decided last minute that I really wanna take a class, can I still register? Yes, you may purchase classes until 5 minutes before they start. You may not purchase and join a class once it has started.

Some Special Notes About Classes |
|
|
-
Class Punctuality: Please arrive on time for all classes. Being late disrupts the flow of the class and is distracting for other students. It also causes you to miss vital information used throughout the rest of class.
-
Students more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted.
- If you try to enter a class 15 minutes past start time, you will be turned away without refund. For real.
- Respectful Behavior: Treat all fellow dancers, instructors, and staff with respect and courtesy.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially during intense dancing sessions.
- Bring a reusable water bottle to refill at water jugs located in/outside every room.
- If a water cooler is empty, please let a Lindy Focus staffer know, we will get them refilled ASAP.
-
Asheville is high altitude and dry - adjust your hydration appropriately!
- Listen to Your Body: Rest when you need it to prevent injuries.
- Don't lose too much sleep - naps are your best friend.
-
Remember sleep deprivation is literally bad for your brain.
- Step outside between classes for fresh air and sunlight.
- At least 20 mins per day of basking in the sunlight is recommended (but remember, public nudity is illegal in the state of North Carolina).
-
Listen to Your Mind: Contact our safety team or disabilities coordinator when you need assistance.
- Take mental, social, or sensory breaks when you need them.
- Continue the Practice: Bring your class material to one of the practice rooms to connect with other dancers and keep the momentum going.
- Have Fun! Most importantly, relax, let loose, and enjoy the incredible Lindy Focus experience.

|
A non-exhaustive list of things to pack: |
- Dance Shoes: Bring comfortable and well-fitted dance shoes.
- We recommend more than one sole type, as slipperiness can vary from floor to floor, day to day.
- If you bring a lot of shoes, bring a shoes rack too!
- Clothing: Pack plenty of breathable and comfortable clothes for dancing, classes, and social events.
- Be ready for cold-mid temperatures outside (30-60F) and cool AC inside - layers are the key to comfort.
- Focus has no official dress code, but folks tend to dress nicer for evening dance and get dolled up for NYE.
-
Pack the colors blue, brown, mint green, and purple, as well as something in the theme of "chainmail & butterflies" if you want to play along with the Colors of EXPO.
- Swimwear: If you plan to visit the hot tub, don't forget your swimsuit!
- Toiletries & Medications: Bring all your personal essentials and any necessary medications.
- Vitamins & immune boosters.
- Comfortable & well-fitted face masks.
- We'll have some available for free at the registration desk all week long!
-
Hand sanitizer between dance partners & hand-washing between classes.
- Instruments: The Lindy Focus Community Jam is free and open to musicians of all levels - bring that saxophone, guitar, ukulele, didgeridoo, or theremin and join in on the fun!
- Cash/Card: For souvenirs from vendors, band merch, food and drink, and any other on-site purchases.
- If you plan to do laundry on site, bring plenty of quarters (& detergent).
- Reusable Water Bottle & Cutlery: In addition to the standard personal reusable water bottle, we also recommend you bring a reusable coffee mug, tupperware containers, and cutlery for meals throughout the week.
-
Lindy Focus Spirit: Bring your love for Swing Music, your eager feet, and an open mind to take advantage of all the special things we have planned for you.
|
Special Requests from the Focus Team |
To support and protect both the staff and attendees of Lindy Focus, we are asking a few things of all individuals for classes and dances. Please help everyone stay healthy and avoid reactions by: |
- Avoiding heavily scented products like cologne, perfume, and candles.
- Refraining from bringing any TREE NUTS as a snack into classes.
- Using a lint roller before leaving your room if you have pets or service animals staying in your room.
