Expectations
-
Lindy Hop dance events are a great way to meet new people, learn new dances, and have a lot of fun. You can expect to see a variety of different dance styles, from beginner to advanced. There will also be live music, so you can enjoy dancing to the sounds of swing, jazz, and blues. We will have community activities during the day that allow you to meet new friends and learn more about our community history and culture.
-
Nope! Lindy Focus is a social event, and you may ask anyone to dance with you. During classes, partners will rotate so that everyone can practice with a variety of other students.
-
If you prefer to bring your own partner to classes, for safety or other reasons, you may alert your instructor that you won’t be participating in rotation.
-
Yes, you need at least a day pass for the dances where you plan to compete, and for the days you plan to take classes and/or participate in community activities.

Post-Helene

The main hotel building was not seriously affected other than briefly not having water. A few villas have been damaged.
-
Currently the hotel has drinking water and drinking water is expected to be returned to the entire city of Asheville by early December.
-
There are some areas in Asheville that are popular for Lindy Focus attendees that are unlikely to be reopen, such as restaurants in the River Arts district near the hotel.
Many businesses and restaurants across the city have reopened and are operating normally, and more will reopen by Focus who are waiting for the return of safe drinking water.
Many nearby hikes and tourist attractions, including the Biltmore estate, have reopened. The gingerbread competition at Omni has been cancelled, but you can see the gingerbread entries at businesses across Asheville.
-
Asheville is still accessible from the east via i40 and the north and south via i26 - this includes accessible from the Atlanta ATL, Charlotte CLT, and Greenville GSP airports.
i40 west (if you come through Knoxville) is closed. Detouring from i40 to i81 to i26 south is only about a 30-45 minute addition from the normal route. i40 may be open one lane in each direction by New Year’s Day.
Local roads are generally accessible.
-
You can find information on resources and donations at this guide, support your favorite local businesses, and find many options for how to support the affected areas in posts that have been made over on the LF Community Group.
Beyond just short term needs, Asheville is going to need continued support. If you're joining us this year in Asheville, please make plans to go into town if you're able to patronize local businesses that have reopened.
We'll be posting lists of some of our favorites and locals' favorites as we get closer to the end of the year.
We are hopeful that Lindy Focus attendees take the opportunity this December to visit as many local Asheville businesses as possible in the week that they are here, and if you can, maybe even stay a day or two extra to see some more of the city.
